The boy was delivered Friday by Caesarean section to Joanne Rogers at St. Luke's Medical Center.
She had developed diabetes during her pregnancy and said she was looking forward to a Jan. 4 delivery, but doctors decided to deliver it earlier because of the baby's size and her medical condition.
"Just to get the baby out, believe me, it was the best Christmas present I ever had," she said of her son, Jeffrey.
Her husband, Jeff, said doctors had told the couple to expect the baby to weigh 91/2 to 10 pounds.
"We were really amazed," he said of the baby's actual size.
According to the Guinness World Records 2000, the heaviest birth was a 24-pound boy delivered in 1879 in Ohio.
